I’m normally a big fan of Nut Brown Ales, in fact because of their rich, dark, bitter flavours, I use them for cooking all the time. If you ever cook a turkey with stuffing, replace your recipe’s water and broth with Nut Brown Ale, you will not regret it. Unfortunately, in this case, everything I love about Nut Browns was missing. No rich lingering bitter flavour. I felt empty after each sip.
Maybe its me, but it seems that all of Cannery’s brews I’ve tasted have a fruity component. It’s not that its bad, but it’s also not that good. It could just be me, but if I wanted to taste fruit in my drink, I’d grab a cider thanks. Its tastes Dark and sweet, a little sour even, but as soon as it leaves your mouth, the taste is gone, virtually no aftertaste. Pretty ordinary brew with a fruity twist. I’m not saying that Cannery Brewing’s Naramata Nut Brown Ale a bad beer, but I definitely will not be running back to the store to get it again any time soon.
